At R&R Pheasant Hunting, LLC, we offer you the finest pheasant hunting experience in South Dakota. One of the ways we do this is by providing trained pointing labs with every hunt. All of our pointing labs go through a rigorous training process, which helps the maximize the effectiveness of your hunt.
Although different dog trainers
use different techniques, there are some generalities that hold true.
The dog's training begins when the dog is still a pup, usually at about
10-12 weeks. The pup will be encouraged to search for treats on the
trainer's person, thereby encouraging and rewarding the dog for using
its nose. About this same time, the dog will first be introduced to game
birds (usually a pigeon). If the dog becomes excited, this is called
becoming "birdy." Some of the more gifted pups will even show a natural
pointing tendency. The handler will then tweak and hone this behavior
through games, such as attaching a bird feather to a fishing line and
dragging it along the ground. This eventually leads to pointing to caged
birds in a field. Once the training is complete, the dog is then ready
to take the field.
The dogs used by R&R Pheasant Hunting are all experienced pointing labs.
Our dogs also work well together, which will help you and your party get
the most out of your hunting experience. Naturally, our guides are
well-versed in getting the most out of our dogs.
R&R Pheasant Hunting is ideal for corporate retreats, family hunts, or a
trip with friends. Our first-class lodgings and superior hospitality
will complete your experience. We also encourage you to bring your own
dogs (we have kennels) to see how they'll fare on a hunt. Call (605)
